Marcia Clark, AMSS President: February 1, 2023. Last evening, I accepted the resignation, due to medical issues, of Eddie Hartfield from the AMSS Board of Directors. Eddie was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in September and surgery was performed in October to remove his thyroid and tumors. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation and is facing a long period of treatment and recovery with a positive outcome. Eddie made this decision as he will be focusing on his recovery and will be unable to devote the time needed to be an integral part of the board.

State Associations: In years past, if a national AMSS member lived in a state that did not have a state association, we granted them the State & National rate for all services. Starting 1/1/23, this will no longer be the case. AMSS feels there are enough state Milking Shorthorn Associations throughout the United States that anyone can be a member of. We are asking for a copy of state membership lists via email, mail, or fax.. We will need updated membership lists throughout the year for additional members.

AMSS EXPRESS Program Update:
The American Milking Shorthorn Society’s Board of Directors met in Beloit (December 2-3, 2022) to review a variety of topics. The AMSS EXPRESS Program was one important topic that was discussed. After much discussion, the board voted to discontinue the program after 12/31/2022. Increasing costs, combined with declining enrollments, ultimately led the board to determine EXPRESS is not cost effective for AMSS to administer.
There will be no program to replace EXPRESS in 2023, but all herds with a DHIA herdcode recorded in the national office will be eligible for production awards presented in 2024.
